How we produce our content

Last updated .

This translation is provided for convenience. The official version is the Portuguese one.

The Brazilian Red Cross Rio de Janeiro publishes, in its News section (in Portuguese), stories about the Branch and guides on first aid, emergencies and prevention in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, International Humanitarian Law, volunteering, history and the courses of our School of Education and Health.

This page explains who writes, where the information comes from, how we use artificial intelligence and how to ask for a correction. The aim is for you to know how each text was made before you rely on it.

Who writes

The texts are produced by the Branch's Communications Department. No text is published without being read and approved by a member of the team, who is accountable for what was published.

How we use artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence tools to support research and writing of the guides: organising the topic, suggesting a structure and proposing a first draft.

Artificial intelligence does not decide what we publish and is not a source of information. Every source cited is opened and read by a member of the team before it goes into the text. Every text is reviewed and approved by the team before it is published. Any data that cannot be confirmed in the source is removed.

Where the information comes from

  • We use official and primary sources: the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (International Federation and International Committee of the Red Cross), the Brazilian Ministry of Health, SAMU (emergency medical service), the Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, published laws and regulations and documents of the Brazilian Red Cross itself.
  • The link to the source sits in the sentence that states the fact, and all sources are listed under "Sources and references" at the end of the text.
  • Figures state the place and year they refer to. We prefer data for the state of Rio de Janeiro; failing that, for Brazil; and lastly, global data.
  • We do not use as a source search-engine summaries, pages that require a login or texts that repeat others without citing the origin.

Health topics

  • In texts on first aid and health, we explain what official guidance says, without creating procedures of our own.
  • We do not publish step-by-step techniques, doses, quantities or other clinical measures, nor guidance on invasive procedures.
  • In every emergency situation, the text tells readers to call SAMU (192) or the Fire Brigade (193).
  • Our texts inform and do not replace care by a health professional or a hands-on course. To learn what to do, look for an in-person course with an instructor.

Texts about the School's courses

Some texts present the courses of the Branch's School of Education and Health and lead to the enrolment page. These texts are labelled as course promotion, follow the same source and health rules as the others and do not state prices in the body of the text: fees and conditions are on the enrolment page.

Images

  • Photos come from the Branch's archive or from openly licensed image banks, always credited with the author and the licence.
  • People we assist, students and volunteers only appear with a recognisable face if there is a recorded authorisation.

Neutrality

We follow the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. Our texts do not take political sides, do not address religious matters and do not judge people or their choices. When we cite a public body, it is as a source of information, not as publicity.

Updates and corrections

  • We review published texts. When official guidance changes or data becomes outdated, the text is updated and the update date is shown on the page.
  • Found an error, outdated information or a broken link? Write to contato@cruzvermelhariodejaneiro.org with the subject "Correção" (correction) and the page address.
  • The team checks the request against the source and, if there is an error, corrects the text.
